About the Compact
All of us working for the environment in Wales recognise the common bond that we have. Our shared commitment to the environment itself underpins our vision, values and practice, right across the statutory and voluntary sectors. Together, those in the compact have aspired to provide a strong collective voice for the environment in Wales.
The Compact has been about how the voluntary and statutory environmental organisations can improve the way they work together.
Our Vision for the Compact
Our vision was of a compact that would:
- Add value to what we do
- Develop open and free-flowing communication
- Make sharing resources commonplace
- Create new opportunities
- Influence and inspire others
- Make a real difference
Since it was established in 2001 the Compact Steering Group believes we have come a long way in improving the methods the two sectors employ when working together. The statutory sector now fully values the achievements of the voluntary sector and seeks to facilitate their work and the voluntary sector sees the statutory sector as partner organisations in the delivery of their aims. As always there are still things that could improve however there has been a step change in the ways of working. For this reason the steering group have decided to step back from the active promotion of the Compact principles but leave this web site until 2015 as a testament to the work that has been achieved, the signatories commitment to working through the Compact principles and as a reminder to all of what the environmental sectors ways of working should be.
